FAQs about Semaglutide

*Disclaimer: Go Wellness Clinic only uses FDA-approved compounded medication.

  • We use both of the FDA approved weight loss prescription medications Semaglutide and/or Tirzepatide. Weght loss clients will be prescribed one prescription medication only.

  • Semaglutide is a treatment that works by imitating the action of the hormone GLP-1. This hormone helps to stimulate the pancreas to produce insulin while at the same time decreasing the production of glucose by the liver. Through this mechanism, semaglutide can cause a feeling of fullness, reduce hunger, and decrease food intake. As a result, the body begins to burn fat reserves for energy, which is beneficial for weight loss efforts.Item description

  • Semaglutide is generally considered safe for most individuals, however, it is most beneficial for those with a BMI of 27kg/m2 or higher, or for those experiencing weight-related issues such as type 2 diabetes or high blood pressure.

  • Common side effects of Semaglutide include: nausea/vomiting, belching, diarrhea, stomach pain, and constipation.

  • Blood work is required to begin any of the three semaglutide treatment programs offered by Go Wellness Clinic. Relevant blood work from within the last 3 months can be used for no additional fee.

    • Improved Glycemic Control: Semaglutide helps to lower blood glucose levels by stimulating insulin secretion and reducing glucagon release in response to meals.

    • Weight Loss: Semaglutide has been associated with significant weight loss in individuals with obesity or overweight.

    • Cardiovascular Benefits: Some GLP-1 receptor agonists have demonstrated cardiovascular benefits, and while individual responses may vary, patients with cardiovascular risk factors may experience positive effects.

  • Everyone will experience treatment differently, but many clients report results after 12 weeks of consistent semaglutide treatments.

FAQs about Tirzepatide

*Disclaimer: Go Wellness Clinic only uses FDA-approved compounded medication.

  • Tirzepatide is a medication used to treat type 2 diabetes. It works by targeting multiple biological pathways involved in glucose metabolism and weight regulation. Specifically, tirzepatide is a dual glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP) and glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist.

  • Common side effects of Tirzepatide include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or constipation, hypoglycemia (low blood sugar). Possible side effects also include injection site eeaction such as xperience redness, swelling, or itching. Pancreatitis can also occur, which includes symptoms of severe abdominal pain, nausea, and vomiting. Lastly, there have been reports of thyroid tumors, including thyroid cancer, in animal studies with tirzepatide. It's unclear if this risk translates to humans.

    • Alcohol - Limit or avoid alcohol consumption while taking Tirzepatide, as it can interact with the medication and affect blood sugar levels.

    • Certain medications - Inform your healthcare provider about all the medications you are currently taking, including over-the-counter drugs and supplements. Some medications may interact with Tirzepatide, affecting its effectiveness or increasing the risk of side effects.

    • Skipping meals - Consistency in meal timing is important while taking Tirzepatide. Skipping meals or having irregular meal patterns can affect blood sugar levels and the effectiveness of the medication.

    • High-fat meals - While there are no specific dietary restrictions with Tirzepatide, consuming high-fat meals may delay the absorption of the medication, affecting its effectiveness in managing blood sugar levels.

    • Driving or operating machinery - If you experience dizziness, drowsiness, or other side effects that may impair your ability to concentrate or react, avoid driving or operating heavy machinery until you know how Tirzepatide affects you.

    • Dehydration - Tirzepatide can sometimes cause gastrointestinal side effects such as nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea, which can lead to dehydration. Make sure to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids, especially if you are experiencing these side effects.

    • Pregnancy and breastfeeding - If you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding, discuss the risks and benefits of using Tirzepatide with your healthcare provider. It's important to manage diabetes effectively during pregnancy, but the safety of Tirzepatide during pregnancy and breastfeeding is not well established.

    • Hypersensitivity - Individuals who have demonstrated hypersensitivity (allergic reactions) to tirzepatide or any of its components should not use the medication.

    • Medullary Thyroid Carcinoma (MTC) - Tirzepatide is contraindicated in patients with a personal or family history of MTC, or in patients with Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2).

    • Pancreatitis - Patients with a history of pancreatitis should avoid tirzepatide due to the potential risk of exacerbating this condition.

    • Severe Gastrointestinal Disease - Tirzepatide may exacerbate pre-existing severe gastrointestinal disease such as gastroparesis. Caution is advised in patients with such conditions.

    • Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA) - Tirzepatide is not recommended for use in patients with type 1 diabetes or for the treatment of diabetic ketoacidosis.

    • Renal Impairment - Use caution in patients with renal impairment, as tirzepatide has not been extensively studied in this population.

    • Hepatic Impairment - Tirzepatide should be used with caution in patients with hepatic impairment.

    • Heart Failure - Given the potential for fluid retention and worsening heart failure, tirzepatide should be used cautiously in patients with a history of heart failure.

    • Pregnancy and Breastfeeding - The safety of tirzepatide in pregnant or breastfeeding women has not been established.

  • Determining which medication is "better" between semaglutide and tirzepatide depends on various factors, including individual patient characteristics, preferences, and treatment goals. Both semaglutide and tirzepatide are medications used to treat type 2 diabetes, but they have some differences.

Semaglutide belongs to the class of drugs called GLP-1 receptor agonists. It works by mimicking the action of a hormone called glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1), which helps regulate blood sugar levels. Semaglutide has been shown to effectively lower blood sugar levels, reduce body weight, and lower the risk of cardiovascular events in people with type 2 diabetes.

Tirzepatide is a newer medication that combines the actions of a GLP-1 receptor agonist and a glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP) receptor agonist. This dual action helps to control blood sugar levels by multiple mechanisms. Tirzepatide has demonstrated significant reductions in HbA1c levels (a measure of long-term blood sugar control) and body weight in clinical trials.

The choice between semaglutide and tirzepatide may depend on factors such as individual response to treatment, side effect profiles, dosing frequency, and cost. Some patients may prefer the convenience of once-weekly semaglutide injections, while others may prefer the potential additional benefits of tirzepatide's dual mechanism of action.

Ultimately, the decision should be made in consultation with the healthcare provider who can consider individual circumstances and help determine which medication is the best fit for each person's needs.
